Vice President of Merchandising
Job Description
We are partnering with a leading global clothing brand to hire a Vice President of Merchandising—a senior leadership role responsible for driving product strategy, assortment planning, and end-to-end merchandising across retail, e-commerce, and wholesale channels.
With over 500 stores worldwide and a rapidly growing digital presence, our client is a market leader in accessible, style-forward apparel. The VP of Merchandising will play a pivotal role in evolving the product vision and ensuring a consistent, profitable, and consumer-driven merchandising strategy across regions.
This is a hybrid role based in the U.S., with a preference for candidates located near major fashion and retail hubs such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, or Atlanta.
Responsibilities
- Lead and evolve the global merchandising strategy, driving category growth and aligning with company objectives across all channels (retail, digital, wholesale).
- Oversee seasonal and long-term assortment planning, including SKU rationalization, lifecycle management, and pricing architecture.
- Partner with Design, Product Development, Planning, and Marketing to ensure cohesive product storytelling and go-to-market strategies.
- Utilize customer insights, market data, and trend forecasting to shape forward-looking line architecture.
- Drive performance through robust KPI tracking (sell-through, margin, velocity, etc.) and make real-time adjustments to in-season strategies.
- Mentor and lead a high-performing global merchandising team; build talent pipelines and succession plans.
- Support international growth by partnering with regional leaders to tailor assortments based on customer preferences, climate, and cultural nuance.
- Report directly to the Chief Product Officer and collaborate with executive leadership on product and growth strategies.
Job Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive experience in merchandising, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a clothing/fashion brand.
- Strong background in both brick-and-mortar retail and e-commerce environments.
- Demonstrated success in developing profitable merchandising strategies and managing multi-regional assortments.
- Deep understanding of consumer behavior, fashion trends, and competitive landscapes.
- Experience managing large cross-functional teams and working in matrixed global organizations.
- Data-driven decision-maker with strong financial acumen (margin optimization, OTB, pricing).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with PLM and merchandising systems; proficiency in Excel, analytics tools, and trend platforms.
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or related field. MBA or Master’s degree is a plus.
Languages
Fluent in English (written & verbal). Additional language skills (Spanish, French, or Mandarin) are a strong asset, but not required.
